Le mois de février est un rappel que la stérilisation de votre animal est importante. Chaque quatrième mardi de février est la journée mondiale de la castration (World Spay Day). Le but de cette journée est de sensibiliser à la castration et au problème des animaux errants. Si vous faites castrer votre animal, vous évitez des grossesses non désirées. Plus précisément en ce qui concerne le Canada, du 18 au 24 février 2024, c’est la semaine nationale de sensibilisation à la stérilisation animale.
February is a reminder that spaying and neutering your pet is important. Every fourth Tuesday in February is World Spay Day. The aim of this day is to raise awareness of spaying and neutering and the problem of stray animals. If you have your pet sterilised, you can prevent unwanted pregnancies. In Canada, February 18 to 24, 2024 is National Pet Spay/Neuter Awareness Week.

Estimated at 3 years old, he weighs just over 10 pounds. Removing the badly matted fur revealed an abscess on his cheek and on his foreleg.
His antibiotic injection seems to be having good effect. He is putting some pressure again on the foreleg and is eating well, so we expect his ribs and backbone will shortly be less visible. FFC is cautious not to overfeed, despite his requests with meowing and giving us the big eyes. He is gentle and we are pleased that his blankets will keep him comfortable while his fur grows back in.

Il sera interdit d’effectuer le dégriffage des chats au Québec, à partir du 10 février 2024. Il existe des options pour protéger vos meubles contre les griffes de minou.
Tout d’abord, il faut offrir un griffoir attrayant à votre chat. Vous pouvez l’encourager à l’utiliser en vaporisant un produit d’herbe à chat sur le griffoir. Investissez dans un bon coupe-griffes et utilisez-le sur une base régulière. Jouez avec les pattes de votre chat pour qu’il accepte la manipulation (commencez lentement - même quelques griffes par jour aident jusqu’à ce que le chat s’habitue à la coupe). Cat declawing will be prohibited in Quebec as of February 10, 2024. There are options for protecting your furniture from kitty claws.
First, provide your cat with an attractive scratching post. You can encourage him to use it by spraying or rubbing a catnip product on the scratching post. Invest in a good nail clipper and use it on a regular basis. Play with your cat's paws to get him to accept the manipulation (start slowly - even a few claws a day helps until the cat gets used to the clipper). FFC185 PUMPKIN. This is our limited edition cat for adoption. About 20% of ginger tabbies are female, and this girl is indeed special. She does enjoy her food, and her tail goes straight up and quivers in anticipation at mealtime. She is sterilized, vaccinated with basic FVRCP and one booster, as well as her first rabies shot. She came in as a stray found early October 2023 and has certainly charmed several volunteers. She is an adult, however age is indeterminate, likely 2 to 3 years old. She might be better named as PUMPKIN SPICE. Her personality prefers people over other cats. She is a curious investigating cat, and we are keeping her interest with food placed in various containers to be explored.
FFC185 PUMPKIN. Voici notre chat en édition limitée. Environ 20% des ginger tabbies sont des femelles, et cette fille est vraiment spéciale. Elle apprécie sa nourriture, et sa queue se dresse et frémit d'impatience à l'heure du repas. Elle est stérilisée, vaccinée avec le FVRCP de base et un rappel, ainsi que son premier vaccin contre la rage. Elle est arrivée en tant qu'errante trouvée début octobre 2023 et a certainement charmé plusieurs bénévoles. Elle est adulte, mais son âge est indéterminé, probablement 2 à 3 ans. Il serait préférable de l'appeler PUMPKIN SPICE. Elle préfère les gens aux autres chats. C'est une chatte curieuse qui fait des recherches, et nous maintenons son intérêt en plaçant de la nourriture dans divers récipients à explorer.

QUI SOMMES-NOUS?
Friends of Feral Cats Hawkesbury is devoted to ensuring the ethical treatment of the abandoned, homeless, stray, and feral cats that are being mistreated and/or ignored by society and by the community in which we live. The organization was founded in March of 2009 after a group of volunteers and an investigator from the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals urged the town of Hawkesbury to issue a by-law allowing us to care for and control the feral and stray cat population.
In addition to controlling the population, our mission is to provide food and shelter on a daily basis and to find responsible, loving homes for abandoned pets and young feral kittens. Cats that can't be placed in a home are monitored, sheltered and fed on a daily basis at their colony for the natural extent of their lives.

Les Amis des chats errants Hawkesbury se consacre à assurer le traitement éthique des chats abandonnés, sans-abri, errant, et les chats sauvages qui sont maltraités et / ou ignorés par la société et par la communauté dans laquelle nous vivons. L'organisation a été fondée en mars 2009, après qu'un groupe de bénévoles et un enquêteur de la Société ontarienne pour la prévention de la cruauté envers les animaux ait exhorté la ville de Hawkesbury àa émettre un règlement qui nous permet de soigner et contrôler les chats errants dans la région.
En plus de contrôler la population, notre mission est de fournir de la nourriture et un abri sur une base quotidienne et de trouver des foyers aimants responsables pour les animaux abandonnés et les jeunes chatons nés en colonie. Les chats qui ne peuvent être placés dans un foyer sont surveillés, abrités et nourris sur une base quotidienne à leur colonie pour le reste de leur vie.
TSNR
TSNR stands for Trap, Spay / Neuter, Return. This method of feral cat control is now being used across North America and world-wide as the most humane method that has been proven effective at controlling and stabilizing feral cat colonies. Other methods of controlling feral cat populations have been tried and were proven unsuccessful because they did not solve the initial problem of reproduction. If you remove cats from a colony others will simply move in and take over the food source (small rodents and birds) and the cycle will simply continue leaving yet another colony of feral cats to remove once again. Those methods have been proven ineffective at controlling the feral cat population world-wide and has since then been replaced with the TSNR method.

Cette méthode de contrôle de chat errants est maintenant utilisée à travers l'Amérique du Nord et dans le monde entier comme la méthode la plus humaine qui a été prouvé efficace pour contrôler et stabiliser les colonies de chats errants. D'autres méthodes de contrôle des populations de chats errantsont été jugées et se sont révélées infructueuses parce qu'elles ne résolvent pas le problème initial de la reproduction. Si vous supprimez les chats d'une colonie, d'autres vont tout simplement se déplacer et prendre en charge la source de nourriture (petits rongeurs et oiseaux) et le cycle sera tout simplement continué en laissant encore une autre colonie de chats errants à supprimer une fois de plus. Ces méthodes se sont avérées inefficaces pour contrôler la population de chats errantset a depuis été remplacée par la méthode TSNR dans le monde entier.
